New sins: Obscenely rich?
March 12, 2008 by Seasons
Am sure by now all have heard of the new sins announced by the Pope. Whilst one can understand littering, cross generational sex, drug dealing, abortion, social injustice being wrong and the Pope did not need to declare them as sins for people to give them attention, I truly cannot fathom why genetic engineering and being obscenely rich are on the list.
By the way what is obscenely rich? As far as I know, wealth is relative and the shop owner in shags with his ’stone’ house and driving a Nissan sunny B11 is considered rich by his neighbors standards and a lot of us will consider Oprah rich but by Warren Buffets standards, Oprah is a pauper.
Give me Warren Buffet’s wealth less a billion dollars( That am sure is shy of obscenely rich). In case you are wondering, I will give the one billion dollars to Oprah but She will still be a pauper by my standards. I believe her and I will still not be committing this sin.
Organized religion has been pathetic and never fails to surprise. I wonder who the Pope consulted when he came up with these new sins. Admittedly, the Roman Catholic church is dwindling in terms of new members. With these new sins, I cant see more members being drawn to Church.

Interesting! All that is sin is stated in the Bible and anyone who wants to find out can go look at it for themselves. they dont need to be told by anyone… Interested in what you are specifically refering to as organized religion
Its like organized religion is out to prove Christoper hitchens right ( he wrote the book ‘God is not great’
about how absurd organized religion can get.Thank God the political power of the catholic church was curtailed. Can you imagine living in medieval Europe when the church run the show?

hmmm I’m a christian (not a catholic one though) and I don’t get why the pope needs to release a list. My understanding is that sin is anything that displeases God and that all that pleases and displeases God is in the Bible. And when needed, the Holy Spirit in you will convict you when God wants you to change a certain behaviour. (He certainly convicted me when it came to buying bootleg media and even burning CDs of music to give to others
the whole pope releasing a list thing just sounds too trendy. Makes me think of something akin to the Fall/Spring fashion trends unveiled at fashion weeks around the world. “The hottest new sin (pun intended)”
Apparently he does that every year! or some such. Anywho he also sad polluting the environment!
But to be honest I found the whole thing bloody (is this still a sin?) hilarious especially considering that the catholic church is one of the richest NGO’s in the world
omg. I never thought about that, the church is the wealthiest land owner in the world!
lol
Interestingly enough my and my pal were talking about this last night!
We had issues with obscenely wealthy too - wealthy is relative and the way they put it they didnt even specify that its cash- its open to interpretation that its cash they are talking about… Plus the Catholic Church like Halfnhalf mentioned is ridiculously rich
this just seems like a publicity ploy! promote “thier good works and concern for society” puhleez!
You were asking who he consulted pretty sure all the sins are issues that make the news everyday!
The Church collects 10% of churchgoer’s income. Won’t that make them the ones who are obscenely rich?
I think it is important that Pope released the lists of sins for world to give attention. The voices of the leaders of Catholic church are still be trusted in the world.
I also wondered who fits in the obscenely rich. Unless the riches have been gotten by taking advantage of the masses aaihh. Warren Buffet is now the wealthiest dude on earth.
What’s wrong with being obscenely rich itself? Isn’t that most people strive for anyway? And I thought rich could also mean having friends, family and love all around?
What a sorry excuse to be poor!
How about someone “obscenely rich” donates the $ to the Pope or people of his religion?
It’s how people manage money.
I don’t know about the sin part, but obscenely rich is just that - obscene. It is my observation that most of the world’s ills are due to ignorance, overpopulation, and greed.
The new “sins” propagated by the Church are New World Order propaganda. By promoting the “climate change” Marxist redistribution agenda, many Catholics will be forcibly deprived of their resources for a global political agenda. By brain-washing the masses into believing personal wealth is evil, it can easily be taken by the collectivists.
Personal wealth is not sinful. It allows individuals to care for themselves, their families, their community, and to tithe and contribute. Can government spend your money more wisely than the one who earned it?
I am not sure where the Pope gets the authority to declare what is sinful. Didn’t God already do that?
Kwani God can not bless someone to be obscenely rich?Watch this space- being a size zero is about to feature up there.
Question- say I am obscenely rich (pliz humour me!), yes, I was still being obscenely rich and therefore a sinner ( I am a sinner anyway) but how do I undo the damage?
Is the Pope poor?
Hence i stick to faith and s***w religion
haven’t been here before. the balls did a houdinni, but i’ll be a round. TC
There goes all the effort put in attracting all the lost folk back to church. Rich is so relative that there is no proper way of drawing the line.
N, I was talking to an old friend and your name came up in the conversation. Just then I realized that you are the guy who writes this blog.
Makes me wonder how many other anonymous bloggers I know.
Wasn’t it obvious? I mean look at what I write about.. But then again…., who is this?
true, how obscenely rich is rich? what is the SI unit?
My guess is that its tied to the sin of gluttony and greed….when we have more than we need and yet we keep accumulating more and more and more for our selfish -legacy, ego, to move on up, keep with Jones etc- purposes it pretty much goes against biblical doctrines.
